Between June 9 and July 9, 2006, the 18th edition of the FIFA World Cup took place entirely on German soil.
The trophy was lifted by Italy for the fourth time in its history in the memorable final that ended with Zinedine Zidane’s expulsion after he delivered a headbutt to Marco Materazzi’s chest in what was the French star’s farewell to football.
PUMA, in addition to dressing the champions, produced the jerseys for 12 other national teams, while Nike featured its logo on the kits of 8 participants and adidas on 6.
England’s Umbro and Italy’s Lotto manufactured kits for 2 teams each, while Ecuadorian firm Marathon Sports and Spanish brand Joma each had one representative.
