All Africa Cup of Nations Champions (1957 → 2025)

An overview of the different champions of the Africa Cup of Nations throughout its history.

The 35th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco has come to an end, and we are taking a journey through the history of the premier national team competition on the African continent.

Organized by the Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF), this trophy had its first edition in 1957 in Sudan, where the Egyptian national team secured the title after a dominant 4-0 victory over Ethiopia in the final.

The “Pharaohs” are the record winners in history with 7 titles, having also lifted the cup in 1959, 1986, 1998, 2006, 2008, and 2010.

In second place are the “Indomitable Lions” of Cameroon with 5 trophies (1984, 1988, 2000, 2002, and 2017), followed by the “Black Stars” of Ghana with 4 (1963, 1965, 1978, and 1982).

Nigeria has won 3 editions (1980, 1994, 2013), as has Côte D’IvoireCoast (1992, 2015, 2023), while DR Congo (1968, 1974), Algeria (1990, 2019), and now Senegal (2021, 2025) have each been crowned twice.

Completing the list are seven countries that have won the tournament once: Zambia (2012), Tunisia (2004), Sudan (1970), Ethiopia (1962), Congo (1972), Morocco (1976), and South Africa (1996).
